Andrew Weatherall - A Mix Of Three Halves

ANDREW WEATHERALL SITS IN FOR IGGY POP - 6 MUSIC 23.08.19 (320kbs-m4a/266mb/1hr56mins)
BBC Radio 6 Music broadcast: 23rd August 2019

DJ Andrew Weatherall sits in for Iggy Pop tonight with a mix of three halves (geddit?) including an ecelctic electro workout. He’s picking up the All Day Rave mantle from yesterday for all the weekenders out there.

Initially working as a freelance music journalist, Weatherall's DJ career started to take off in the late Eighties when he met Danny Rampling who invited him to play his club night Shoom.

He went on to become a regular Shoom DJ, playing the upstairs room alongside his friend Terry Farley, as well as spinning records at Paul Oakenfold's Future/Spectrum nights and Nicky Holloway's Trip.

In other words, some of the key club that came to define dance music as the Eighties turned into the Nineties.

His first studio work was alongside Paul Oakenfold working on the essential club remix of Hallelujah for the Happy Mondays. Other remixes followed, notably "World in Motion" for New Order, "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" for Saint Etienne and "Soon" for My Bloody Valentine which was ranked at number 1 in NME's list of "The 50 Best Remixes Ever".

His complete re-working of Primal Scream's RnR ballad "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" into the mind-bending Loaded was so perfect it failed to make the aforementioned chart of remixes.

Since then he's gone from strength to strength both in the studio and behind the decks.
